DATE: January 2018
SUBJECT: 2017 Year in Review
To all our friends:
The Historic Ottawa Beach Society finished 2017 with increased attendance at the Pump House Museum and a record high number of paid members.
Ottawa County began construction on the all important East Addition to the pump house.
We applied for grants from four area agencies, and as of this writing we were denied one grant, we were awarded two grants and are awaiting a decision on the final grant.
We started the process of getting a short term lease from Ottawa County for the Pump House building and we approved the design of two new Pump House Museum signs which will be mounted on the north and south ends of the building.
Valerie van Heest was retained to design and fabricate two new major exhibits for the museum to replace the now two-year-old S. S. Icebound exhibit.
Denise Smyk’s upper elementary language arts students began their year-long study of the Big Red lighthouse by having a guided tour of Big Red itself.
As you see, the HOBS board is slowly turning their attention from building improvements to the task of creating and operating the Pump House Museum and Learning Center. We need your support – your financial support – to offering museum visitors an experience which will both captivate and educate.
Won’t you take a moment to both renew your membership and to make a donation in support of our efforts.
The HOBS board thanks you very much.
